Green Ideathon: Call for proposals for the management of DMH Green Space in the city of Abomey-Calavi

Deadline for applications: 20 October 2024
Apply

The DMH Green Space, located at the Kpota crossroads in the Abomey-Calavi commune, is a site developed by the African Center for Equitable Development (ACED) in collaboration with the Abomey-Calavi city council. It is a space designed to meet the environmental and social needs of the population. It covers an area of 1027m².

It includes elements such as: (i) walking paths that can promote physical activity; (ii) benches located in ideal shaded areas for relaxation, equipped with electrical outlets allowing occupants to charge various devices (phones, computers); (iii) toilets constituting essential infrastructure for visitors' comfort; (iv) lawns composed of various plant species that can enhance family and social gatherings.

This green space, in addition to its ecological benefits, offers possibilities for promoting fast and sustainable food services, as well as recreational and educational activities centered around the environment.

New amenities are envisioned for the space to increase its appeal (internet access, playground, food truck, digital information and advertising board, ...). The major challenge is to ensure good management of this space so that it can sustainably fulfill these functions for the well-being of visitors.

The lack of effective management models for this type of space has led ACED, in collaboration with the Abomey-Calavi city council, to launch this call for ideas. The selected idea will be implemented in a learning process to stabilize a management model to be proposed to the Abomey-Calavi city council. This call is therefore launched to identify and support the implementation of innovative management ideas for the sustainability of the DMH Green Space. At the end of the process, one of the organizations proposing innovative ideas for the sustainable management of the space will be selected and supported for implementation.
