Recruitment of a consultant responsible for developing a technical guide on the understanding, collection, analysis, use and integration of gender and youth data for inclusive interventions in Food and Nutritional Security (FSN)

Deadline for applications: 25 August 2024

The African Center for Equitable Development (ACED) is a think and do tank that works for equitable development in Africa. We build partnerships, share our expertise and develop sustainable solutions to support policymakers and practitioners to make fair, informed and inclusive decisions. At the heart of our work is an integrated approach that combines the production and exploitation of evidence, political commitment and action on the ground. Our work focuses on four thematic areas : food systems, the nature economy, the digital economy and human development.

Recent studies have demonstrated the crucial role of women and youth in many African countries in all three pillars of food security and nutrition : food availability, food access and food utilization. However, countries facing severe hunger problems often have high levels of gender inequality. Closing the gender gap and improving youth inclusion in agriculture are identified as effective strategies to significantly reduce hunger and improve food availability. Thus, to effectively integrate data on gender and youth into food security and nutrition interventions, particularly within humanitarian organizations in West African countries, there is an urgent need to strengthen the capacity of actors and practitioners working in NGOs in the sector.

It is with this in mind that the human development component of ACED received funding from USAID/BHA to implement the GAYA (Gender And Youth Activity) project. This project aims to support implementing partners of BHA-funded activities who express a need for practical, program-oriented approaches to integrating and using data to better understand gender norms and youth dynamics.

As part of this, ACED is seeking an individual consultant to develop a technical guide focused on integrating gender and youth-specific data into food security and nutrition (FSN) interventions. This guide will detail strategies that can be used to collect, analyze and use gender and youth data to inform FSN interventions.

This guide will be used to create an online course to train implementing partners to drive behavioral changes in integrating gender and youth data into FSN interventions. The terms of reference in annex (1) provide details on the objectives, expected results and technical specifications of this call for tender.
