WELL-BEING
ACED promotes human well-being by supporting policies and practices that advance environmental sustainability, and food and nutrition security. We work on the nature economy to foster nature-positive solutions and urban biodiversity, recognizing the vital link between a healthy environment and public well-being. In parallel, we support sustainable agriculture and equitable food systems to improve food security and livelihoods. In both areas, we ensure that relevant knowledge is produced, accessed, and used to inform inclusive and sustainable policymaking.
Case study. Our intervention in integrating nature in urban planning and management
ACED has been implementing a regional Nature in Cities program since 2021 to restore green infrastructure, strengthen urban biodiversity, and improve climate resilience in cities. Working with municipalities, the Ministry of the Living Environment, researchers, and urban planners in Benin, ACED generates actionable knowledge – such as data on ecosystem services, canopy cover, and urban biodiversity – to inform policy and practice. Ongoing studies are also assessing models for managing urban green spaces and identifying effective approaches to integrating nature into cities. Together, these efforts support evidence-informed urban planning and environmental governance.
