{"id":7083,"date":"2014-08-06T14:10:02","date_gmt":"2014-08-06T13:10:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aced-benin.org\/?p=7083"},"modified":"2024-03-19T11:30:27","modified_gmt":"2024-03-19T10:30:27","slug":"training-on-composting-water-hyacinth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/acedafrica.org\/en\/training-on-composting-water-hyacinth\/","title":{"rendered":"Training on composting water hyacinth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The project of valuing water hyacinth from Lake <em>Nokou\u00e9 <\/em>through compost manufacture <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">(<\/span>PROJEC<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">)<\/span>, funded by the French Global Environmental Facility and IUCN-French Committee,\u00a0is being implemented in partnership with GEVALOR. It aims to reduce the emissions of greenhouses gases \u00a0and to sustainably protect the fish biodiversity of Lake <em>Nokou\u00e9<\/em>. For that purpose, a threefold approach has been defined:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>valuing water hyacinth through compost manufacture<\/li>\n<li>valuing water hyacinth through basketry<\/li>\n<li>valuing the reduction of the emissions of greenhouse gases on carbon market (gases emitted by water hyacinth in its natural area)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The first component\u00a0is being running\u00a0and one of its highlights was the <strong>training of gardeners\u00a0groups<\/strong> of the municipality of S\u00f4-ava on how to maufacture the compost with water hyacinth. Thanks to the enthusiasm and the strong mobilization of gardeners, this training\u00a0have been a real success. The results are instructive:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a fact sheet on composting water hyacinth has been developped and disseminated;<\/li>\n<li>48 relay-gardeners of 6 gardeners groups had their capacities enhanced and are able to share the process with their peers;<\/li>\n<li>6 gardeners groups are now able to transform the water hyacinth problem into opportunity;<\/li>\n<li>6 garderners groups can now use organic fertilizer for an\u00a0environment-friendly\u00a0agriculture.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In order to support the implementation of the learned techniques, <strong>some important equipments were allocated to gardeners groups<\/strong>. Thus,\u00a0boats, pumps, wheelbarrows, watering cans, forks, boots and other equipments have been made \u200b\u200bavailable to them and welcomed in a general jubilation.<\/p>\n<p>As a student who needs his pen and his notebook to study, I now have, thanks to the ACED intervention, my &#8220;pen&#8221; (machete) and &#8220;my book&#8221; (water hyacinth).
